Trey Rutledge is a third generation Marine Corps Veteran and Texas A&M Aggie running to represent Texas House District 17 in the Texas House of Representatives. Trey's father is a Marine Corps veteran and retired police officer. Trey's mother and step-father, who is a retired Sheriff's Deputy, are both NRA instructors and own a gun store. Trey grew up on a farm and enjoyed many things as a child to include showing animals at the county fair, shooting guns, fishing, and playing sports. He played football, baseball, soccer, basketball, and track while growing up. He graduated high school in 2015 and just three months later shipped off to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina to begin his journey in the United States Marine Corps. During his Marine Corps career, Trey would become a Combat Engineer and end up deploying to Iraq and Kuwait. A few months after returning home from a deployment in 2017, Trey married his wife, Alexis Rutledge. Alexis currently serves in the United States Army Reserves as a U.S. Army veterinary technician. Trey ended up leaving the Marine Corps, with an honorable discharge, at the end of his contract in 2019. He got out as the rank of Sergeant.

After the Marine Corps, Trey and Alexis moved to Texas where they now live on their small ranch in Lexington. They raise cattle and quarter horses. They are both proud Texas A&M Aggies. Trey is a Political Science major with a minor in Philosophy and Alexis is studying Clinical Lab Sciences with aspirations to get her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. They are both proud members of the National Rifle Association as well as active members in their local American Legion Post 6 and Texas A&M's Young Americans for Freedom chapter. Trey is also a member of Ducks Unlimited. He has volunteered for many organizations to include Habitat for Humanity, The Kuwaiti Children's Hospital and The Best Day Ever Foundation. Trey enjoys serving others and giving back to the community. He is a strong supporter of the military, law enforcement, and all of the first responders that put their lives on the line everyday to help those in need. He decided to run for office to continue to follow his calling of serving others.

As a constitutional conservative, Trey is a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. He believes that Texas is moving in the right direction, having recently passed constitutional carry, but hopes to make the License to Carry more accessible for those who wish to obtain it by eliminating the fee for the certification. As a Christian, Trey is pro-life, believing that life begins at conception and that it should be cherished both before and after birth. He strongly believes that we need to fight to fix our foster care system and make adoption more accessible and affordable for Texans. As a rancher and landowner, Trey is passionate about agriculture and land conservation. He knows that no one is more adamant about the care of animals and the land than farmers and ranchers. This is why he will fight against legislation that aims to regulate farmers and ranchers and their methods of production. Trey will also fight to lower the property tax and create larger agricultural exemptions so we can pass our land and legacy on to the future generations of Texans. As someone raised by small business owners, Trey understands the importance that small businesses have in a community. This is why he will fight for tax cuts and against regulations aimed to restrict the benefits of a free market. He also understands the importance of our youth and believes that parents should have 100% transparency in their child’s school curriculum. That is why he supports school choice, allowing parents to determine which school their child can enroll into. Trey knows that our children are the future and believes that we must protect them from indoctrination of false ideologies. Trey is a strong supporter of the Military and first responders, and will fight to eliminate all state licensing fees, such as hunting and fishing licenses, for in state veterans and first responders.
